Har Har Mahadev - Everybody is Mahadev !(?) - Review

Being in a foreign country, I was quite excited when I got my hands on a copy of The Oath Of Vayuputras, the series finale of Shiva trilogy. It is one of the novels I have been eagerly waiting for.
I was quite keen to see how Amish handled the transformation of Lord Shiva into his most furious state, the avatar of Lord Rudra.
I would not say I was delighted by the treatment of Amish, but also i am not able to pin point specific parts where I have complaints. To avoid more complexity in a story with already many unnecessary sub-plots and to avoid extension of the series, I feel Amish skipped the legend of Parvathi into the story entirely (although it seems that there is no "Parvathi" in the world of Meluha). I could feel myself literally drowse through the parts with Vayuputras. I had always felt Vayuputras will be influential to stand Shiva takes spiritually. I always expected more details about Vayuputras in the final installment without taking away the mystery quotient from them. But leave aside the Vayuputras backstory and details, the only thing that mattered in the end was that they had the "Daivi Astras" and they gave them to Shiva.  Also the way in which Shiva's ferocity against Daksha, who was unknowingly the reason behind Sati's assassination, his immense sadness and loss are described formed an interesting read. At most places you feel the plot to be hurried, as if written in urgency to finish before a deadline (!?).
The Oath Of Vayuputras wraps up the series, may be not perfectly or even nicely, but surely. Somehow at the end of the book you end up believing that if Lord Shiva was really a common man who rose to the occasion which lead to him being called the Destroyer (before the Creation). Although not up to my expectation, I would still recommend this series to all Indians, just as an alternative (a highly improbable one in any case) to the myth/legend of Lord Shiva.
